Chocolate Sheet Cake
2 cups flour
3 1/2 tablespoons cocoa
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 stick margarine
2 unbeaten eggs
1/2 cup Crisco
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
I cup water
I teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix flour and sugar in a bowl In a saucepan, bring to boil margarine,
Crisco, water and
cocoa. Pour over flour mixture. Beat together buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, soda
and salt. Add to cocoa mixture and mix well Pour into greased and floured cookie
sheet with edges (approximately 11-in x I6-in). Bake at 400 for 20 minutes.
Frosting:
1 stick margarine
1 pound powdered sugar
3 1/2 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup nuts
1/3 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Prepare while cake is baking. Boil margarine, cocoa and buttermilk in
a saucepan until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Remove from
heat and add remaining ingredients.
Spread on cake as soon as cake is removed from the oven.
